China has approved the establishment of more than 1,700 Internet-based hospitals, the national health commissions said on Wednesday.

Since the outbreak of COVID-19, all parts of the province have accelerated the development of Internet hospitals relying on physical hospitals so that Internet-based diagnosis and treatment has gradually become an important innovation in China medical system.

As of the end of last year, the number of online medical users in China reached 298 million, an increase of 83.08 million over 2020, and online medical users accounted for 28.9% of the total netizens.

More than 50% of public hospitals at level II and above nationwide have carried out appointment diagnosis and treatment.

More than 4,800 hospitals can make precise appointments for diagnosis and treatment in different time periods, avoiding the gathering of people in hospitals and reducing the risk of cross-infection.

In the meantime, telemedicine has covered all prefecture-level cities and more than 90% of counties across the country, enabling grassroots people to enjoy high-quality medical resources and improving grassroots medical service capabilities.
