East China’s Jiangsu province has stepped up the construction of major investment projects and ensured their smooth progress against the sweltering heatwave so as to fulfill goals for social and economic development set forth in this year’s government work report.

Yangzhou recently started the construction of the first centralized external supply project for compressed air. Workers were seen installing and debugging piling equipment.

The project is planned to be constructed in two phases. At present, the first phase of the project has been started, with an investment of about 170 million yuan and an annual gas supply of 960 million cubic meters.

"This project can reduce investment reduce equipment maintenance costs and reduce personnel costs which is a big step for our transformation." Zhou Jinbao, Deputy General Manager of Jiangsu Guoxin Yangzhou Power Generation Co., Ltd said.

As one of the most widely used power sources in the industrial field, compressed air is used in all walks of life.

The previously used small air compressors have problems such as high energy consumption and low utilization rate. The centralized supply of regional compressed air can increase the company's operating efficiency and reduce the total regional energy consumption to achieve a win-win situation for all parties.

The project can save more than 10% of the energy cost of gas-consuming companies and save 18,320 tons of coal consumption every year.

The foundation stone was laid for a hydrogen proton exchange membrane project in Lijia Town, Wujin District, Changzhou City.

Expected to deliver annual output of 6.5 million square meters, the provincial major project will produce proton exchange membranes, the key core material of hydrogen fuel cells, which directly affects the performance of fuel cells.

After half a year of hard work, an enterprise in Wujin broke through the bottleneck technology and successfully developed the first-generation hydrogen proton exchange membrane.

"We independently develop proton exchange membranes relying on the core technology of PTFE membranes to break the monopoly and achieve import substitution." Zhang Yun, Director of Jiangsu Yuanhydro New Energy Technology Co., Ltd said.
