The National Agricultural Modernization Demonstration Zone in Sucheng District of Suqian City, has kept in mind General Secretary Xi Jinping’s instructions and contributed to Jiangsu's efforts to maintain the bottom line of food security.
The trial planting of rice varieties screened by Ruihua Seed Industry in Sucheng District, Suqian City has entered the grain filling period.
Since its establishment more than ten years ago, the company has developed into a technology-based seed enterprise integrating new variety selection, breeding, production, promotion and sales. 32 new crop varieties have been born from this enterprise. In recent years, Jiangsu has launched a seed industry revitalization project to encourage cooperation between seed industry enterprises and university research institutes by conducting research on excellent functional genes and core technologies of biological breeding for core provenances so that it has initially established a seed industry industry-university-research cooperation mechanism.
Since the "Thirteenth Five-Year Plan", Jiangsu has selected and bred 301 new varieties of major crops to increase high-quality rate of rice and wheat varieties to over 95%, and improved varieties to over 90%. The province has produced more and better agricultural products on limited land.The application of a series of new technologies such as the Internet of Things and big data has greatly improved the efficiency of field management and significantly improved the quality of arable land in Jiangsu.
By the end of last year, the province had registered about 46 million mu of high-standard farmland, about 20 percentage points higher than the national average.
The National Agricultural Modernization Demonstration Zone in Sucheng District has completed the construction of 50,100 mu of high-standard farmland approved this year to add to a total of 87% in the proportion of high-standard farmland in the region.
In the past eight years, Jiangsu has stabilized its grain output at more than 70 billion catties. Last year, the total grain output reached 74.92 billion catties, a record high.
