Chen Zhu, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the Chinese People's Congress, led a team of the China Peasants and Workers Democratic Party to go on an inspection tour in Jiangsu to learn about the efforts made and progress achieved on strengthening ecological protection over the Yangtze River. Wu Zhenglong, secretary of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee, met with Chen, who is also chairman of the Chinese Peasants and Workers Democratic Party, one of the non-communist parties in China.
The Central Committee of the Chinese Peasants and Workers Democratic Party held a meeting Tuesday in Nanjing on the democratic supervision of the ecological and environmental protection of the Yangtze River.
Chen Zhu pointed out that since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, under the guidance of the Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization, China has witnessed historic, turning, and overall changes in its ecological and environmental protection.
He said in recent years, the Jiangsu Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Government of the Communist Party of China have studied the Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization, implemented the central government’s major strategic decisions and policies on the high-quality development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, made every effort to promote the improvement of the Yangtze River’s ecological environment, and promoted a comprehensive green transformation of economic and social development, as is evidenced by the fact that a turning change has taken place in the ecological and environmental protection of the Yangtze River, and historic achievements have been made in economic and social development.
This is also an important initiative for the unity and cooperation of the Communist Party of China with all democratic parties and people without party affiliation in the new era, which fully embodies the characteristics and advantages of China's political system under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, said Chen Zhu.
Wu Zhenglong thanked the Central Committee of the Peasants and Workers' Party for its long-term care and support for Jiangsu's development and for its supervision and guidance of the province's Yangtze River ecological and environmental protection.
He said that Jiangsu will go all out to implement the Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization, put the restoration of the Yangtze River’s ecological environment in an overwhelming position, systematically build an institutional guarantee for the development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, and coordinate pollution control of rivers, seas, rivers, lakes, water, air and soil.
The CPC provincial chief said Jiangsu has strictly implemented the central government's policies on the fishing ban in the Yangtze River, and accelerate the adjustment of the industrial structure and productivity distribution in the areas along the Yangtze River, as is evidenced by the fact that the main environmental indicators of the Jiangsu section of the Yangtze River have reached the best level since the new century.
Wu Zhenglong noted that that Jiangsu will implement the feedback and suggestions of special democratic supervision, and take more solid and powerful measures to win the battle against pollution in the Yangtze River, and build the region along the Yangtze River into a model of high-quality development with production development, affluent life and excellent ecology, and strive to make new and greater contributions to the modernization of the country.
He said the province will adhere to the coordinated promotion of carbon reduction, pollution reduction, green expansion and growth, and unswervingly promote the ecological priority, green, low-carbon and high-quality development of the Jiangsu section of the Yangtze River Economic Belt and welcome the convening of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China with practical actions.
