East China's Jiangsu province has invested 11.6 billion yuan in key water conservancy projects as of the end of October, giving a strong impetus to the province’s economic and social development.
The second phase of the Huaihe River waterway project, a national water network backbone project planned to be constructed during the "Fourteenth Five Year Plan", will enhance the flood control capacity of Hongze Lake to cope with the flood once in 300 years and ensure that more than 20 million people and more than 30 million mu of arable land in the basin are protected from the threat of floods.
Since the commencement on July 30, 1.6 billion yuan has been invested in the project.
At the construction site of Zhangjiahe Sluice in Binhai County, all kinds of large machinery and equipment were kept busy to ensure that the 14.5km river project will be started within the year.
Water conservancy construction departments all over Jiangsu have made every effort to speed up the construction of key water conservancy projects. By the end of October, 1.17 billion yuan had been invested in the control project of plain depressions in the Huaihe River basin, accounting for 97% of the total spending. 840 million yuan was invested in the construction of flood detention areas around Hongze Lake, accounting for 84% of the total spending.
Wuxi and Suzhou invested 1.294 billion yuan to consolidate and improve the flood control safety of the levees around the Taihu Lake, enhancing the capacity of flood control, storage, and water resources regulation in the Taihu Lake,
Since the beginning of this year, water conservancy construction departments all over Jiangsu have gone all out to promote the construction of new projects. By the end of October, the province had invested 11.64 billion yuan in key water conservancy projects, an increase of 4.6 percentage points over the same period last year.
