East China's Jiangsu province will create an addition of 130 provincial characteristic rural villages in 2023 on the basis of the creation of the 147 provincial characteristic pastoral villages last year.
Approved as a provincial characteristic rural village in 2022, Nanzhuangtou Village in Lishui District of Nanjing City presents a beautiful ecological environment and an industrial layout of characteristic ecological agriculture.
The local fruit and vegetable cooperative has leveled more than 50 mu of land in a bid to adjust the agricultural planting structure, and interplant vegetables with Chinese herbs such as peony and angelica dahurica to create new features of rural industrial development.
Zhang Min, Production Director of Banshan Fruit and Vegetable Cooperative, Lishui District, Nanjing said, "We have no competitive advantage if we only grow vegetables. Planting Chinese herbal medicine and vegetables can break the bottleneck of single mode vegetable planting."
Wei Changbo, Secretary of General Party Branch and Director of Village Administration, Qiuhu Village, Lishui District said, "In the next step, we will make full use of the characteristic rural effect, develop rural tourism through the in-depth integration of agricultural tourism, change the mode of selling agricultural products in the past, promote self-picking and agritainment, so as to further increase the added value."
The most important thing to build rural industry is to make farmers rich. The cooperative in Xuwang Village, Jianhu County allocated 330 mu of land last year to cooperate with a local rice company to develop tailored-planting to ensure farmers' income.
Xu Weibing, Secretary of General Party Branch and Director of Village Administration, Xuwang Village, Jianhu County said, "The cooperative has implemented mechanization from production to sales. In 2021, the cooperative distributed a second dividend to the farmers with an income per mu of 80 yuan. In 2022, we estimated that the dividend per mu would reach 150 yuan."
This year, Jiangsu will create another 130 provincial-level characteristic rural areas, and guide all localities to vigorously and orderly carry out the construction of characteristic rural areas, promote the formation of a number of characteristic rural demonstration areas that integrate landscape, pastoral, industry, and nostalgia, and further promote the high-quality development of rural areas.
