The Provincial Department of Science and Technology has made every effort to promote the transformation of scientific and technological achievements as the province is carrying out education campaign on study and implementation of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era.
Jiangsu is rich in scientific and educational resources, with 168 universities, a group of national key laboratories, and national research institutions. In 2022, the province recorded a transaction volume of 380 billion yuan in technology contracts, ranking among the top provinces in China.
The Provincial Department of Science and Technology has recently developed a special project to visit universities and research institutes, hear the opinions and suggestions of university technology transfer centers and grassroots scientific and technological personnel, and analyze the difficulties and obstacles in the process of technology transfer centers and university scientific and technological achievements transformation.
“For a specific institution such as a technology transfer center, the level of emphasis may vary among universities. If the Department of Science and Technology, the Department of Education, the Department of Finance and other relevant departments formulate specialized documents, the construction of technology transfer centers in the new era will be further promoted,” said Rui Hongyan, Secretary of the Party Committee of Nanjing University of Technology.
The "holographic waveguide VR display technology" developed by Professor Zhang Yuning's team at the Display Technology Research Center of Southeast University over 8 years was officially transformed this year.
This new display technology leads the world, but how to quickly open up the market situation after transformation has become a "growth headache" that the team has recently encountered.
“When technology goes from 0 to 1/1, whether in the market, the user end, industry, or investment community, we do not directly experience what the product may look like. We need some demonstration projects to depict this application scenario, which can greatly promote our industrialization process,” said Zhang Yuning, Director of the Display Technology Research Center at Southeast University.
In response to the issues identified in the research, the Provincial Department of Science and Technology has planned to introduce specific measures to guide and support the high-quality development of technology transfer centers in universities.
“We will conduct in-depth analysis and investigation of difficulties and problems in accordance with the requirements of thematic education, create a list of problems, study practical and effective development methods and measures, and strive to achieve high-quality development of our university technology transfer center, and take the transformation of scientific and technological achievements in the province to a new height,” said Wan Famiao, Director of Scientific Research Institutions Department of Jiangsu Provincial Department of Science and Technology.
As of now, the Provincial Department of Science and Technology has formulated multiple research reports by launching research work on 14 topics, including key core technology research, basic research, scientific and technological talent introduction, and scientific and technological system and mechanism reform.
In the next step, the Provincial Department of Science and Technology will comprehensively utilize various research methods, as well as internet and big data tools, to strive to identify real problems through real research and continuously improve the pertinence and effectiveness of policy services.
