East China’s Jiangsu province is committed to promoting high-level technological self-reliance and self-improvement so as to promote the province’s high quality development, according to a press conference held on Tuesday by the provincial information office.
In recent years, Jiangsu has made significant breakthroughs in the cultivation of strategic technological strength, regional innovation highlands, industrial technology innovation levels, independent innovation capabilities of enterprises, and the creation of an environment for innovation and entrepreneurship.
In 2022, Jiangsu recorded over 370 billion yuan in research and development investment, contributing nearly 12% to the national total with the R&D investment intensity exceeding 3%, reaching the moderate level in innovative countries and regions. Jiangsu recorded a proportion of 48.5% of the output value of high-tech industries above designated size, with a contribution rate of 67% to scientific and technological progress. Its regional innovation capacity has been among the top in the country for many consecutive years.
Jiangsu will make every effort to shoulder the mission of ranking first in the national scientific and technological innovation echelon, focus on scientific and technological self-reliance, and strive to promote high-level scientific and technological self-reliance from seven aspects. By 2025, the R&D investment will account for about 3.3% of gross regional product, and the high-tech industry will account for 50% of the industrial output above the designated size.
“Jiangsu will adhere to the integrated deployment of innovation chain, industry chain, capital chain, and talent chain, accelerate the construction of major science and technology platforms, strengthen basic research and applied basic research, consolidate the role of enterprises as new entities of science and technology innovation, make greater efforts to promote the deep integration of industry, university and research institution, improve the level of open and collaborative innovation, deepen the reform of science and technology system and mechanism, and focus on building an industrial science and technology innovation center with global influence”, Zhao Jianguo, Deputy Director of Jiangsu Provincial Department of Science and Technology, said.
