Since the start of the summer vacation, children in Jiangsu have embraced study varied tours to spend the vacation in a meaningful way. Study tour, as a new type of education method, has continued appeal to more and more people in recent years.
More than 50 students from Xuzhou No. 10 Middle School visited the workshops of XCMG to observe the manufacturing process of cranes and understand the development process and technical principles of cranes so as to apply their knowledge to practical experiments.
“I have felt the technological development in China and the power of innovation”, Huang Canyu, a student of Xuzhou No. 10 Middle School, said.
In Xuzhou, over 700 students from 14 schools will participate in a comprehensive study tour integrating "science popularization education, industrial education, and craftsmanship education" over a period of two months. This study tour combines knowledge from junior high school courses in physics and chemistry with product development to enhance students' hands-on operation and knowledge transformation abilities.
“The study tour deepens students' interest and understanding in the field of manufacturing, and establishes their aspirations to build a strong country through technological innovation from a young age”, Zhang Ran, Project Leader of Industrial Study Tour at XCMG, said.
Since the beginning of summer vacation, museums in Zhenjiang have launched a rich and colorful series of activities, covering study tours, lectures, handicraft-making, and science popularization, allowing children to experience the charm of intangible cultural heritage through hands-on experience.
“We hope to help children transform from cultural "inheritors" to cultural "disseminators" during the five days”, Liang Yanwei, Librarian of Zhenjiang Museum, said.
Changzhou China Dinosaur Museum has arranged for science popularization lecturers to interact with students to gain a close understanding of dinosaur knowledge. Since the end of June, many travel agencies in Changzhou have developed and designed related products around the theme of study tours, which have been welcomed by parents and students.
“We have added new courses in our summer study tour, such as baking courses, robot courses and agricultural education courses in the Taihu Lake Bay Camp, hoping that students can have a deeper understanding of Jiangnan and Changzhou”, Zhang Miao, Manager of the Teacher Center of Changzhou Radio and Television Mainland International Travel Agency Co., Ltd., said.
Experts suggest that study tours can enhance students' horizons and broaden their thinking, but while emphasizing knowledge and experience, it is also necessary to highlight safety.
“During study tours, organizers must be attentive to the psychological status of the teenagers, especially in many campsites where accommodation is provided so as to ensure safety and security”, Hu Xiaohai, Vice Dean of the School of Culture and Tourism at Jiangsu Institute of Technology, said.
