East China’s Jiangsu province is making every effort to take the lead and make demonstration in promoting the Chinese path to modernization. JSBC has the story.

In half a month, the Yueguang organic rice in Daizhuang Village, Tianwang Town, Jurong City will be harvested. Thanks to the ecological cycle planting and breeding model of zero chemical fertilizer and green fertilizer, the soil fertility has been continuously improved, resulting in better rice quality. It is predicted that the average income per mu will increase from 2400 yuan to around 6000 yuan.

“Daizhuang Organic Agriculture Professional Cooperative will keep in mind the General Secretary's instructions, strengthen the construction of ecological high standard farmland, vigorously develop biodiversity agriculture, give full play to ‘science and technology’ to empower the organic rice industry, realize agricultural modernization, and promote more farmers to achieve common prosperity”, Yao Weichao, Chairman of Daizhuang Organic Agriculture Professional Cooperative, Secretary of Daizhuang Village CPC Committee, said.

Since the beginning of this year, Jiangsu has focused on farmland and seeds as two key elements, implemented the food crop production strategy based on farmland management and technological application, and promoted the construction of a high-level agricultural powerhouse.

Last year, Jiangsu recorded a 71.8% contribution rate of technology to agricultural progress, surpassing the national average by nearly 10 percentage points. This year, Jiangsu recorded another bumper harvest in summer grain production, with a total output of 14.071 million tons, an increase of 68000 tons from the previous year, reaching a new historical high.

Wu Yonghan, a 47-year-old citizen of Changzhou, was unemployed at home after being laid off from her previous work. After receiving training arranged by the community, she recently joined a professional elderly care service institution.

“Now my income is quite good and I have relatively free working hours, so I am quite satisfied”, Wu Yonghan, a resident of Zaojiang Community, Sanjing Street, Xinbei District, Changzhou City, said.

“We have given full play to the advantage of being ‘zero distance’ between employment service stations and residents, allowing our residents to truly experience tailor-made employment and entrepreneurship services. In the first half of the year, we trained 800 nursing staff for elderly care institutions”, Ren Li, Deputy Secretary of the Party General Branch of Zaojiang Community, Xinbei District, Changzhou City, said.

Jiangsu has included basic public services that receive widespread concern in its annual livelihood activities and implemented project-based management and inventory-based promotion to ensure effectiveness. Currently, more than half of the 55 livelihood projects of this year have been completed.

“During his visit to Jiangsu, General Secretary Xi Jinping proposed that we should stick to the real economy to build a modern industrial system, and show new achievements in strengthening the chain, supplementing the chain and extending the chain. Kunshan Development Zone will work hard to build a modern industrial system, compete for future emerging industries such as Metaverse and new energy, and lay out new high-end food tracks such as coffee industry, so as to make greater contributions to Kunshan's efforts to build a county-level demonstration of the Chinese path to modernization”, Xu Minzhong, Member of the Standing Committee of Kunshan Municipal Party Committee, Deputy Secretary of the Party Working Committee and Deputy Director of Kunshan Development Zone Administration, said.

“The General Secretary put forward the requirements of ‘protecting, excavating and utilizing’ the historical and cultural resources during his inspection tour to Nanjing’s historical and cultural blocks. To this end, Xuanwu District has established a cultural and tourism integration development alliance, aiming to further combine the cultural and tourism industry with the night economy, consumption upgrading, and old city renewal, so as to promote the integration, development, upgrading, and expansion of cultural, commercial, and tourism, and create a cultural and tourism brand that blends history and humanity, tradition and modernity”, Zhang Hao, Deputy Director, Bureau of Culture and Tourism, Xuanwu District, Nanjing City, said.
