Historical parks in Chengdu, capital of southwest China’s Sichuan Province, has been thrust to the spotlight since the opening of the 31st Universiade. JSBC has the story.
People's Park, the most famous park in Chengdu, has a history of over a hundred years. Generation after generation of Chengdu people drink tea, chat, walk birds, and take walks here, making it a microcosm of life in old Chengdu and a witness to urban development.
The leisurely slow life of Chengdu people is omnipresent, as is evidenced by the tea house, the most representative and lively place. The Heming Tea House is an old tea house with a hundred years of history.
“As a grand event for global youth exchange, the Chengdu Universiade has prepared a letter written by Chengdu middle school students for each journalist. Liao Yanbo, a classmate from Shishi Middle School, recorded a bilingual audio in both Chinese and English by passionately recommending the Heming Tea House for the reason that this place embodies the ancient and modern, idle and exquisite Chengdu temperament”, Li Ming, JSBC staff reporter, said.
Local people come to Heming Tea House to drink tea, make blind dates, fall in love, take care of children, respect the elderly, and enjoy the family life. Tourists from all over the world come here to fully enjoy Chengdu's "slow life" by drinking a cup of tea for most of the day, chatting, and talking cheerfully and humorously. Old stories and new encounters are thereby constantly growing and changing in this city.
“Every city has citizen parks, sports parks, and forest parks, but have you heard of high-speed rail parks? About one kilometer from Chengdu East railway station, there is a park with the theme of high-speed railway culture. What you can see here is not only the beautiful scenery, but also the ‘Fuxing’ and ‘Harmony’ high-speed trains speeding past, forming a wonderful landscape of ‘watching trains from the park, watching the park from the trains’. Residents living nearby say that a few years ago, this was a wasteland, but now it has transformed into a green ecological park with clear water and beautiful scenery. Inside the park, the children's amusement park, fitness facilities, observation deck, and cycling greenway attract many citizens every day. According to statistics, there are currently over 1500 parks in Chengdu, with 6500 kilometers of greenways built, putting a ‘jade necklace’ on the entire city. If you ask which park is the most beautiful and which greenway is the best, Chengdu people may answer you this way”, Li Ming, JSBC staff reporter, said.
“Every park has its own unique flavor, and I think it's like eating hot pot. The one within easy reach is definitely the best one”, a resident of Chengdu, said.
“The happiness of Chengdu people comes from various aspects, not only from these parks of all sizes, but also from various mouthwatering delicacies and relaxed living environments as well as the city's history, culture, openness, and inclusiveness”, a resident of Chengdu, said
“Chengdu is a city that you don't want to leave once you come, and you will know when you come”, a resident of Chengdu, said.
