East China’s Jiangsu province has stepped up the construction of major transport infrastructure projects and ensured their smooth progress through every possible effort so as to fulfill goals for social and economic development.

At the site of the shield tunneling starting section of Suzhou East Station Tunnel in Suzhou Industrial Park, the pump truck poured the last concrete into the mold, announcing the completion of the pouring of the first section of the cushion layer of the Suzhou East Tunnel on the Nantong-Suzhou-Jiaxing-Ningbo high-speed railway. It is expected that the excavation of the foundation pit at the starting section of the shield tunneling will be completed in late October.

“The entire shield tunnel needs to pass through the Beijing-Shanghai High Speed Railway, Shanghai-Nanjing Intercity Railway, Beijing-Shanghai Railway, as well as Suzhou Metro Line 3 and Line 5 alongside with more than 10 urban roads, making it the largest and longest high-speed railway urban tunnel constructed in China”, Geng Chao, Deputy Chief Engineer of Nantong-Suzhou-Jiaxing-Ningbo High speed Railway Section I of China Railway 14th Bureau, said.

At the construction site of the Huai'an East Station building on the Nanjing-Huai'an intercity railway, workers braved the scorching heat to install the curtain wall of the station building so as to ensure that the project is fully completed in late August.

The Huai'an East Station, with a total construction area of 45000 square meters, will become an important hub for the intersection of multiple railway lines such as the Lianyungang-Huai'an-Yangzhou-Zhenjiang railway, the Xuzhou-Suqian-Huai'an-Yancheng railway, and the Nanjing-Huai'an Intercity railway.

“At present, the project has entered the final construction phase and will ensure 1-hour high-speed rail travel between Nanjing and Huai'an, which will play a huge role in promoting the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta”, Hao Junnan, Deputy Manager of the Station Building Connection Project at Huai'an East Station, said.

Significant progress has been made in the Shanghai-Suzhou-Huzhou railway, which spans Shanghai, Jiangsu, and Zhejiang. The final box girder erection of the Jiangsu section's front four sections has been completed, laying a good foundation for subsequent ballastless track construction. The Jiangsu section of the Shanghai-Suzhou-Huzhou railway is expected to open to traffic in 2024.
