The Chongming-Qidong Highway and Railway Yangtze River Bridge, the world's largest span dual purpose ballastless track cable-stayed bridge under construction, has completed the lifting construction of the steel cofferdam at the first section of the 4th main tower pier. JSBC has the story.

At the construction site, the construction workers operated two large floating cranes with lifting capacities of 1300 tons and 1000 tons to slowly lift the first steel cofferdam from the transport ship and accurately placed them at the designated position of the main pier’s group pile.

The entire steel cofferdam is divided into four sections for transportation and installation. Upon its completion, the cofferdam will produce a steel giant with a length of 72.7 meters, a width of 47.45 meters, a height of 24.68 meters, and a total weight of approximately 2650 tons, equivalent to a 9-story building occupying 8 basketball courts.

Steel cofferdam is an enclosure structure made for deep water construction, which can prevent water and soil from entering, allowing for drainage and excavation of foundation pits within the cofferdam.

The Chongming Qidong Highway and Railway Yangtze River Bridge, with a length of 4.09 kilometers and a main span of 400 meters, is a key control project of the high-speed railway from Shanghai to Hefei through Nanjing. The upper layer is designed as a two-way 6-lane first-class highway with a speed of 100 kilometers per hour. The lower level is designed as a dual track high-speed railway with a speed of 350 kilometers per hour and a dual track intercity railway with a speed of 250 kilometers per hour.

The bridge is of great significance for optimizing the layout of the railway network along the Yangtze River region, serving the coordinated development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, and promoting high-quality integrated development in the Yangtze River Delta.
