East China’s Jiangsu province has allocated 54.6 million yuan in prize and subsidy funds to support the construction of the "Ecological Island" pilot zones, the provincial department of finance said on Tuesday.
The provincial finance has recently allocated 182 million yuan to support the construction of eight "ecological island" pilot projects, including Longchi Mountain in Yixing, Tianmu Lake Cluster in Liyang, Junshan in Nantong, Dazhong Lake in Yandu, and Tianxingzhou in Taixing.
The first batch of subsidy funds of 54.6 million yuan has been issued.
The funds will be used to carry out projects such as biodiversity investigation and monitoring, species protection, alien species invasion prevention and control, and sustainable development and utilization of biodiversity.
The construction of "ecological islands" refers to the organization and implementation of scientific and moderate human intervention around river basins such as the Yangtze River, the Grand Canal, coastal wetlands, and the Lixia River and lakes, with counties or county-level cities as units, to achieve self-regulation and positive succession of the ecosystem, and improve regional species richness.
