East China’s Jiangsu province has stepped up the construction of major investment projects and ensured their smooth progress through every possible effort so as to fulfill goals for social and economic development. JSBC has the story.

On August 31st, the first prefabricated box girder of the Nanjing-Shanghai section of the Shanghai-Chongqing-Chengdu high-speed railway was erected on the Yizheng Grand Bridge, making it the first of its kind to be erected on the entire line and paving the way for subsequent construction. The first box girder has a span of 31.5 meters, a total length of 32.6 meters, and a total weight of 697 tons.

The main line of this section is 30.9 kilometers long, with bridges accounting for 96.63% of the totality that includes 3 super large bridges, 854 prefabricated box beams that need to be erected, and 19 continuous beams that need to be cast in place.

The Shanghai-Chongqing-Chengdu high-speed railway runs 416 kilometers from Nanjing to Shanghai along the north bank of the Yangtze River, with a designed speed of 350 kilometers per hour.

The precast segmental beams of the southern connection of the Changzhou-Taixing Yangtze River Bridge have all been poured. At this point, the largest segmental beam prefabrication plant in the province completed the prefabrication task of all 3123 segmental beams in 846 days, laying a solid foundation for the opening to traffic of the Changzhou-Taixing Yangtze River Bridge.

“70% of the segmental beam erection has been completed, and it is expected that all the segmental beams for the southern connection of Changzhou will be completed by the end of October and early November”, Wang Bowen, Construction Site Manager of the Changtai Bridge Project of China Communications First Highway Bureau, said.

On the evening of August 31st, the Xijinqiao Station of Suzhou Metro Line 8 was connected to the power grid, laying a solid foundation for the subsequent cold, hot, and smooth contact network and high-speed train debugging of the first section.

Running through multiple urban green ecological scenic spots such as Huqiu Wetland Park, Yangcheng Lake, and Jinji Lake, the total length of Suzhou Metro Line 8 is 36.5 kilometers, with 28 underground stations and 12 transfer stations.

“This electrification plays an important role in the debugging of the trains and electromechanical systems. Suzhou Metro Line 8 will be put into trial operation in the second half of 2024”, Zhou Anyi, Head of power supply project for Suzhou Metro Line 8, said.
