East China’s Jiangsu province has stepped up the construction of major investment projects and ensured their smooth progress through every possible effort so as to fulfill goals for social and economic development. JSBC has the story.
The builders of China Railway 20th Bureau completed on Monday the lifting of a large section of the main bridge weighing 930 tons and 90 meters long. The steel structure of the main bridge of Kunlun Bridge, a key control project for the waterway regulation project from Wuhu city of Anhui province to Shanghai, was completed in Changzhou city, Jiangsu province.
“This new technology combines the main bridge of the 90-meter-long bridge into a bridge through five lifts, occupying only about 4 hours of the river in a single operation, saving two-thirds of the time compared to traditional bridge construction and significantly reducing the impact on the passage of the canal's waterway,” said Chen Xinghe, Project leader of the Liyang urban section of China Railway 20th Bureau.
Expected to be open to traffic by the end of the year, the bridge will expand from its original 4 lanes to 6 lanes to greatly improve the traffic for residents on both sides of the canal.
Running through Anhui, Jiangsu, and Shanghai, and crossing the Yangtze River Delta, the 271km long Wuhu-Shanghai Canal is an inter-provincial inland river shipping channel connecting the Yangtze River and the Taihu Lake River systems that has a designed maximum navigation capacity of 1000 tonnage ships and an annual cargo transportation volume of 22 million tons. Its section in Jiangsu is approximately 254.7 kilometers.
At the construction site of Section 5 of the Binhai Port Railway Line, with the cooperation of track laying machines and towing vehicles, workers safely and smoothly landed a 25-meter-long steel row on the roadbed before tightening the fasteners in place with mechanical wrenches.
“The construction of the bridge deck system for our section has been completed, and the track project is now in its final stages,” Luo Yunlong, Director of the Engineering Department of Binhai Port Railway Special Line Section 5 of China Railway 10th Bureau, said.
As one of the major projects in the province, the 50.7-kilometer-long Binhai Port Rail Line is designed with a speed of 120 kilometers per hour. When opening to traffic at the end of September, the railway will become an important transportation infrastructure, supporting the construction of the Huanghai New Area by further expanding the hinterland of Yancheng Port's Binhai Port area.
