East China’s Jiangsu province has sent its 33rd medical team to Zanzibar and the 19th medical team to Malta. A seeing-off ceremony was held in Yangzhou on Tuesday.

Doctors and nurses from Yangzhou make up the medical team to Zanzibar while the medical team to Malt consists of medical staff from Yangzhou and Wuxi.

The medical workers have undergone a special training before heading for their countries of destination for a one-year medical aid stint.

“During the training period, we strengthened our English training and received over 20 comprehensive quality trainings. In the future, we will plan to promote and implement 25 new technologies based on the existing technology and infrastructure in the country of destination,” said Wang Lu, Deputy Chief Physician of Endoscopic Diagnosis and Treatment Center of North Jiangsu People's Hospital.

This year marks the 60th anniversary of the dispatch of China's foreign aid medical team. Since 1964, Jiangsu has sent 1193 medical staff in 73 batches of medical teams to Guyana, Zanzibar, and Malta where they treated nearly 10 million patients.

“We need to find ways to overcome various difficulties and strive to help local patients as much as possible,” said Gao Lingling, Deputy Chief Physician of Obstetrics and Gynecology at North Jiangsu Hospital.

“I am the attending physician of the acupuncture and moxibustion Department of Yangzhou Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital, and I will contribute my due strength to China's foreign aid cause,” Gaojing Liang, Member of 19th medical team for Malta, said.
