This year marks the 90th anniversary of the establishment of the Nanjing Museum. The Nanjing Museum will successively launch a series of activities such as special exhibitions, study tour experiences, and cultural and creative exhibitions, enabling the public to enter the historical palace and experience the splendid culture of the Chinese civilization.

On Monday morning, experts from both domestic and foreign cultural and museum circles gathered at the Nanjing Museum to review the development process of Nanjing Museum in the past 90 years and consolidate wisdom and cohesion for the development of the New Era Museum. Multiple international museums have also signed cooperation memorandums with Nanjing Museum, opening a new chapter in cooperation and exchange.

“Among the 6565 registered museums in China, the Nanjing Museum has a very high status and is also very special. Whether it is in the protection of cultural relics, exhibition planning, or digital technology applications, the Nanjing Museum has produced a large number of talents,” said Liu Shuguang, Chairman of the China Museum Association.

Starting from Tuesday, the Nanjing Museum will officially launch two special exhibitions for its 90th anniversary. The collection of the Nanjing Museum is based on the history of the Nanjing Museum, showcasing the profound cultural heritage of the South Museum's collection through over 90 sets of 200 cultural relics. Numerous precious cultural relics will be presented, including the highly valuable national treasures and relics such as the Great Universal Geographic Map or Kunyu Wanguo Quantu.

“The drafter of the map was Italian missionary Matteo Ricci, who entered China during the Ming Dynasty. He drew the world map based on Western world maps and combined it with Chinese maps. At that time, it was a printed version, but the printed version has been lost. This is a copy of the world map made based on the printed version, and it is the only Chinese version of the world map that exists in China during the Wanli reign of the Ming Dynasty,” said Cui Xiaoying, Exhibition Curator, Deputy Research Librarian of Nanjing Museum.

The Nanjing Museum has also prepared a series of exciting supporting social education activities, targeting people of different ages. Through various methods such as guided tours, recitations, music and dance, handcrafting, and story interpretation, participants can gain a comprehensive understanding of the history and stories of Nanjing Museum from as many perspectives as possible.

“These activities allow more people from the public to have access to our museum and our cultural relics. Exhibitions, educational activities, and cultural and creative products are all bridges for us to communicate with society and the public,” said Wang Qizhi, Vice President of Nanjing Museum.
