Ports in east China’s Jiangsu province have continuously optimized the business environment since the beginning of this year with continuous and steady production growth, laying a solid foundation for achieving the annual goals.
At the Ro/Ro berth parking lot of Lianyungang Port, cars arriving by sea from Japan are neatly arranged and about to be loaded onto freight trains for shipment to Russia.
“From January to September, we recorded a year-on-year growth of 60% in roll on roll, and this year we have achieved unprecedented development and reached a new historical high in roll on roll,” said Sun Dong, Manager of the Ro/Ro Department of Lianyungang Port Group.

From January to September, Lianyungang Port recorded a cargo throughput of 231 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 8.84%, and a container throughput of 4.4065 million TEUs, a year-on-year increase of 12.51%.
The Phase I project of Terminal 5 in Shenxia Port Area, one of the bulk cargo terminals in Jiangyin Port, recorded a year-on-year increase of 6% in cargo throughput and 4% in foreign trade cargo throughput from January to September.
Shenxia Port Area has launched renovation and expansion projects for docks 5 and 6 by carrying out green upgrading and intelligent transformation of the port in a bid to achieve resource intensive and economical utilization, and improving port service capabilities.
Since the beginning of this year, Shenxia Port Area has continuously strengthened cooperation with ports in the upper and middle reaches of the Yangtze River and coastal areas, promoted the upgrading of existing ports, and comprehensively improved the carrying capacity and competitiveness of Jiangyin Port.
“In terms of building a network of internal and external trunk waterways, we have made every effort to break through the blockages in the Xicheng Canal trunk waterway of the Shenzhang Line, carry out the renovation and upgrading of partial shallow excavation and navigation obstruction bridges, and ensure that the standard mileage of Class III and above trunk waterways reaches about 55 kilometers by 2025,” said Jiang Yi, Deputy Director of Jiangyin Transportation Bureau.
