East China’s Jiangsu province ranks first in the country in terms of the number of national level green factories, green parks, and green supply chain management enterprises, according to the nation’s 2023 green manufacturing list recently released recently by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
Green manufacturing has become an organic component and distinctive feature of high-quality development in Jiangsu’s manufacturing sector.
100 national level green factories, 13 green parks, 34 green supply chain management enterprises, and 10 national industrial product green design demonstration enterprises in Jiangsu have been shortlisted for the national green manufacturing list in 2023, with the number of various types ranking first in the country, all achieving double growth compared to the previous year.
Dyeing has always been a high energy-consuming industry, and the production of a pair of jeans requires nearly 10000 liters of water. The dyeing and finishing workshop of Black Peony Textile Co., Ltd., located in Tianning District, Changzhou City, is using the "bubble dyeing" technology invented by its technicians to dye the fabric on the machine. This involves fully mixing the electrolytic liquid indigo with inert gas in the equipment to produce bubbles to ensure uniform coating on the yarn.
The use of bubble dyeing technology has reduced the water and electricity consumption of denim by 94% and 29%, respectively, and reduced the addition of steam and chemicals by 87% and 75%, so as to change the high energy consumption situation in denim production, playing a huge demonstration role in energy conservation and emission reduction in the industry.
“The trending fabric production is gearing towards functional, green, and environmentally friendly research and development. We have updated our equipment every year and invested 5 million yuan annually in various equipment upgrades for the making of a green circular economy,” said Zhu Rongping, Executive Vice General Manager of Black Peony Textile Co., Ltd.
Green products have brought huge economic benefits to Black Peony, as is evidenced by its sales increase by 15% and foreign trade increase by about 30% in 2023.
As a province with developed manufacturing industry, manufacturing is of utmost importance for energy conservation and emission reduction in Jiangsu. In the "14th Five Year Plan" for industrial green development and the implementation plan for carbon peaking emissions in the industrial sector, Jiangsu has shifted its focus from energy conservation and emission reduction in the past to pursue the greening of the entire manufacturing system.
In 2023, Jiangsu sorted out and updated a list of 207 energy-saving and technological renovation projects by saving 3.06 million tons of standard coal in total. In addition, Jiangsu has implemented provincial and municipal linkage energy-saving supervision on the data centers of 265 key energy consuming enterprises, urging enterprises that exceed the energy consumption limit standards and illegally use eliminated energy consuming equipment to rectify within a specified period of time. At the same time, 31 energy-saving diagnostic service institutions have been organized to provide free diagnostic services to 307 enterprises.
“In terms of energy, the industrial park has continuously increased their use of clean energy such as solar and wind energy, leading to growth in 2023 and inclusion in national green parks,” said Wang Hao, Deputy Director of the Yancheng High-tech Zone Administration.
It is expected that the energy consumption per unit of GDP in Jiangsu will decrease by about 4% in 2023, further promoting the achievement of carbon peak and carbon neutrality goals in the industrial sector.
