The development of the new generation of information technology industry is a strong engine for the transformation of old and new kinetic energy in the province. In the process of promoting major investment projects, Nanjing and Wuxi have accelerated the development of the next-generation information technology industry by creating pilot zones and cluster zones, and injecting new kinetic energy into the province's high-quality economic development.
Integrating production and R&D, ZTE's Nanjing Intelligent Manufacturing Base involves a total investment of 20 billion yuan. Eight production plants have been launched since construction began in March 2018. Upon its operation, the base can produce about 5 million wireless system equipment and 5G products annually, indicting its maturity of intelligent manufacturing to the domestic and even the international industry first-class level.
The large-diameter silicon wafer project for integrated circuits, launched by Zhonghuan Semiconductorin Wuxi, involves a total investment of US$3 billion. The project's main products are 8- to 12-inch polished silicon wafers. The company is expected to turn out 750,000 pieces8-inch wafers and 600,000 pieces12inch wafers by 2023. Electromechanical installation is underway to get ready for commissioning and trial production in small and medium-sized batches by late April.
As the project goes, the project has set a record for the largest capacity, the shortest construction period and the fastest production rate in a single-seat semiconductor factory.
When completed, the project will break through the technical blockade and market monopoly by foreign companies on large-diameter silicon wafers for integrated circuits, and provide low-cost, high-quality and stable silicon wafer supply to the local integrated circuit manufacturers. It will also form a closed loop of the industrial chain to further promote the development of industrial clusters alongside with the R&D of integrated circuits in Wuxiand thechip packaging in Jiangyin.
