Friday marks the 20th anniversary of Macao's return to the motherland. Over the past two decades, Jiangsu has made active exploration in its cooperation with Macao and joined hands with the Portuguese-speaking countries to find new opportunities for shared development.
In accordance with the central government's requirements for the development of Macao, the Macao SAR government has taken solid steps to promote the World Tourism and Leisure Center and the service platform for commerce and trade cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries.
It has also promoted the construction of an exchange and cooperation base with Chinese culture as the mainstream and multicultural coexistence that has promoted the development of Macao as an internationally renowned city featuring political stability, social harmony, economic prosperity and cultural diversity.
From the initial days of returning to the motherland to 2018, Macao's GDP has increased by nearly 8 times, per capita GDP has increased by almost 5 times, cumulative fiscal surplus and foreign exchange reserves have increased by 193 times and 6.2 times, and the local unemployment rate has fallen from 6.3% to 1.8 %.

In the past 20 years, Jiangsu has continuously sought new opportunities for development in its cooperation with Macao. Suzhou Yangcheng Lake hairy crabs are served on the dining table of Macao residents and the Macao King of Crystals has sought to expand his business in Donghai County.
Jiangsu has been an active participant in the China-Portugal Forum and the Macao International Trade and Investment Expo. The Jiangsu-Macao Portuguese-speaking Countries Business Summit helped Jiangsu make inroads into the markets in the Portuguese-speaking countries. 218 Macao students have been admitted to Jiangsu-based universities and 132 civil servants from both sides have exchanged visits. Jiangsu and Macao have continued to expand the areas of cooperation to bring about closer exchanges.
