East China’s Jiangsu province is stepping up its efforts to renovate old residential quarters to increase people’s sense of gain and happiness.
Wangxiang Xincun Community in Guangling District, Yangzhou City was built in the late 1980s, with dilapidated infrastructure and detached exterior walls. No garage was built in the community, so many residents took up green space and built tin-roof sheds to stack household items.

The residents are full of expectations when informed that the government will renovate these old communities this year. The community also held a symposium to solicit suggestions in advance.

We will refresh the exterior walls and stairways
and appropriately increase parking spaces
Yangzhou will continue to renovate 164 old communities and scattered buildings with an area of 1.73 million square meters.
Drainage renovation, road surface repair, building renovation and environmental beautification will be implemented on a customized basis to greatly improve the living environment of 170 thousand residents.
Recently, Xuzhou released 52 projects in 8 categories for people's livelihood in 2022, including improving the construction of the epidemic prevention and control capacity system, community medical services and public-good emergency first aid training.
