East China’s Jiangsu province is poised to promote the popularization of science and technology, according to a document jointly released by the Provincial Party Committee Office and Provincial Government Office.
Jiangsu will give full play to its advantages in science and education resources, promote comprehensive innovation in science popularization concepts, content, dissemination methods, and service models, and strive for high-quality development of science popularization to better serve high-level technology and self-reliance.
To strengthen the construction of high-level science popularization capabilities, Jiangsu will improve the evaluation system for science popularization talents, create a team of full-time and part-time science popularization talents with excellent quality and wide coverage, optimize the layout of science popularization infrastructure, accelerate the construction of Jiangsu Provincial Natural Science and Technology Museum, and promote the full coverage of comprehensive science and technology museums in districts and cities.
In order to adapt to the ecology of science popularization in the new era, Jiangsu will strengthen the digital communication of science popularization, accelerate the integration and development of old media and new media, and create an omnimedia science communication matrix.
By 2025, Jiangsu will accelerate the formation of a large-scale science popularization pattern with the participation of the entire society with 19% of the citizens possessing scientific literacy.
In recent years, Jiangsu has continuously promoted the improvement of scientific literacy among five key groups of people, including teenagers, farmers, industrial workers, the elderly, leading officials and civil servants. In 2022, 15.89% of the Jiangsu citizens were measured to have scientific literacy, nearly 3 percentage points higher than the national average, ranking first in the country for 8 consecutive years.
